Location: Santa Barbara, CA
Basic Job Functions: The primary job tasks are based on the scale up of solar modules and developing new equipment for an R&D and Pilot Production scale environment
Responsibilities:
Design, specify and install equipment for pilot and manufacturing processes
Establish equipment requirements and metrics based on device performance goals and production cost targets
Interface closely with Automation/Controls Engineers to fully integrate pilot and production equipment and processes
Interface closely with Mechanical/Design Engineers to prototype and develop precision coating equipment
Specify and configure vision systems both for automation and failure analysis
Write and execute detailed scope (SOW’s) for new equipment and processes
o Define requirements and project scope
o Implement novel processes on custom process equipment
o Ensure smooth transfer to production staff
Work with various vendors for design, review, and implementation of new equipment
Rapid Prototyping
Develop and maintain mechanical system schematics
Train engineers, process technicians and operators
Supervise tool handoff from implementation to R&D to production
Manage data collection and perform and report analysis via statistical process control on a regular basis
Learn existing R&D process and work in cross functional teams to transition into manufacturing environment
Desired Qualities:
Education: B.S. in Engineering or related discipline; M.S. in related area preferred
5+ years experience
Experience with 3D CAD systems such as Autodesk or similar
Ability to read and generate mechanical schematics
Experience with motion control systems (motors, encoders, bearing types, etc...)
Ability to use basic hand tools and measuring devices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Must be able to work well and safely without close supervision
Must interface successfully with engineers and personnel of other disciplines
Experience in the following areas is a plus:
solar, smart window, OLED, or battery industries
precision conveyance
laser processing
manufacturing equipment development
computer programming
Ignition and Allen Bradley and Omron PLCs
interfacing multiple pieces of production equipment with each other
window manufacturing
slot die coating
solution processed thin film coating
clean room operation
